This post follows where my team's research went and how it developed into Sharon and Harrison's Winter Market product.
My team decided to research Kafe Kerouac, a local coffee shop, bookstore, record shop, and bar located near campus. Our overall research interest was to observe how the establishment changes from day to night. This research was then given to Sharon and Harrison, who were tasked with using this research to design a product to sell at Winter Market at the end of the semester. The insights they had to work with were:
1: Given that the atmosphere of a space can change the artifacts around it, how might design use artifacts to influence the atmosphere of a space?
2: Given that the layout of furniture allows for the multipurpose space in Kerouac, how else might design encourage multiple uses for a space?
3: Given that music can shift the atmosphere of a space, how might design utilize sound to create an atmospheric change in the home?

They designed Squared Away, a compact shelf wall unit that folds out for use. This design was inspired by insight two as it allows for multiple uses of a space, adapting to wherever it is placed and whatever objects it is used to hold. Below are more details for Squared Away.
Materials: reclaimed wood, canvas tote bag straps, silver eyelets, screws, hinges.
